Robert Charles Rawson entered this life on February 29, 1924 and passed away on September 16, 2015 at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 16 days. The only child of Ernest Rawson and Minnie Ostrander-Bacon-Rawson, Bob was raised with his brother Burl Bacon in Sterling, Nebraska. He grew up in the Christian faith in the Sterling Methodist Church.

Following his graduation from high school he served honorably in the United States Army in World War II. He served in the European Theater of Operations where he was medically evacuated during the Battle of the Bulge on December 24, 1944. The next day all members of his squad were lost in that battle.

After his discharge from the Army, Bob enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the College of Business Administration where he earned the degree of B.S. in Business Administration in May 1949. He then entered Peru State College where he earned the degree of B.S. in Education in May 1950.

Bob was united in marriage to Opal Johanna Nyland in June 1950 and to this union two children were born - Arlyn and Dale Rawson.

For a short time Bob served as a Principal and Superintendent of Schools in Unadilla, Nebraska but left that career to take ownership of a grocery store in Adams, Nebraska which he operated for 25 years. Following the sale of the store, Bob served as office manager and bookkeeper for a local farm implement business and also served for some years as the clerk and treasurer of the Village of Adams until his retirement in 1992. Opal worked with Bob in the grocery store for many years and also assisted him at the farm implement business.

During his adult life Bob was active in the Adams Presbyterian Church and served as a trustee and elder for many years. He was also active in the Adams VFW and American Legion Posts and served several terms on the Adams School Board.

In 1992, Bob and Opal retired and moved to Lincoln where they joined the Hope Reformed Church. Opal's health began to fail in 1996 and following two years of struggling with cancer, she passed away September 16, 1998. Bob remained in his home in Lincoln until February 2009 when he moved to the Legacy Terrace Retirement Community.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife Opal, brother Burl Bacon and wife Ruby, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vernon and Thelma Nyland, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marius and Gladys (Nyland) Kroese and sister-in-law Betty (Nyland) Harms. He leaves to mourn his passing his son Arlyn and wife Janet of Lincoln, son Dale of Mead, Nebraska, granddaughter Elizabeth (Rawson) Steichen and husband Terry of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, grandson Jeff Rawson and wife Betsy of Amsterdam, Netherlands, grandson David Rawson and wife Jenny of Lincoln, granddaughter Katharine Rawson of Lincoln, great-grandchildren Laura Steichen, Claire Rawson, Johanna Steichen, and Sebastian Rawson, brother-in-law Louis Harms and wife Janet of Lincoln, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

While his earthly time has passed it is a tribute to Bob's faith that those gathered here today also use this time as a celebration of his new and eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
