William Edward Burcher was the son of Edward Arthur and Florence Emma Irene Burcher (nee Smith), of Mosman, New South Wales, Australia. During World War II he served as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force. William was killed during a flying battle over the North Sea, Atlantic Ocean, on 7 January 1945.
