Matthew L. "Matt" Elder, 47, of Mifflintown, passed away at 7:25 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at Pinnacle Health West Shore Hospital.
Born Oct. 30, 1967, in Harrisburg, he is a son of the Nancy (Bovard) Elder, of Brookline Manor, Mifflintown, and Donald L. Elder and his wife, Gayle L. Elder, of Shippensburg. On Oct. 2, 1999, he married his surviving wife, Shelly L. (Swartz) Elder, with whom he was blessed to share nearly 16 years of marriage.
Surviving are his children, Andrew J. Elder and Olivia G. Elder, both at home, a step-brother, Heath Myers and his wife, Lisa, of Shippensburg, his beloved dog, Blake, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Elder was a 1986 graduate of Central Dauphin East High School, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 298, Mifflintown.
Prior to his illness he, had worked as an EMT.
Matt was an avid reader who loved animals and spending time with his children.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Corner of Third and Lemon streets, Mifflintown, with Pastor Casey Hostler officiating. Interment will be private.
There will be no viewing, however a time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, until the time of service at the church.
