Robert “Bob” E. Loy, 82, of Effingham, passed away Wednesday morning, September 16, 2015, at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, with the Rev. Jason Rensner officiating. Military rites will be held at the funeral home. Burial will be in Loy Cemetery in Effingham at a later date. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bob was born October 7, 1932 in Effingham County, the son of Ralph and Caroline (Hook) Loy. He married Frankie Joyce Myers on May 11, 1957 in Effingham. Bob graduated from Effingham High School, then served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked as a carpenter in Effingham and then later in California. He returned to Effingham where he and his wife built their family home. He was employed at John Boos for twenty-eight years. Throughout his life, he played the banjo with a local band, Bob and the Poor Boys. Bob later retired and worked part-time for the Effingham Country Club. During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion, participating in 40/8, parades, and military funerals.

Bob is survived by his wife, Frankie “Joy”; his four children, Lucille (Mike) Rutner of Mesquite, NV; Pamela (Bruce) Monaco of Baton Rouge, LA; Sandra Loy (Dedra Linn) of Effingham; and Robert J. (Penni) Loy of Effingham; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his six sisters, Virginia Wendt of Watson, Mary Lou (Ervin) Yocum of Edgewood, Rita Yocum of Effingham, Irene Pocrnich of Effingham, Susan (James) Feldhake of Effingham, and Judy (David) Ochs of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his beloved dogs: Tinkerbell and Mollie-May.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brian Compton; brothers-in-law, Hank Wendt, Robert Yocum, and Mark Pocrnich; good friend, Jack Ries; and his beloved dogs, Ralph and Callie.
