James Parks, 54, Osakis, died at his home August 6, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born December 19, 1951 in Turtle Lake, North Dakota to Addison and Bernice (Scheer) Parks. He grew up in Turtle Lake and his first job was doing construction work around the Turtle Lake area. He married Sharon Frederick April 11, 1970 and had three daughters, Cindy, Nikki and Lori. Jim began a lifelong career truck driving and started his own business called Parks Trucking after the purchase of his own truck. As his business grew, he changed the name to Parks Enterprises. On June 25, 1983, Jim was married to Kris Malvin. They had four children, Mollie, James Jr., and twin girls, Carmen and Claire Parks. They lived in Osakis and Jim drove truck for many more years before selling his business and becoming a driver for the trucking firm Harry Lindbery, Inc.
Jim loved the outdoors and living in the country. He joined the Trailblazers Saddle Club and was a member of their Team Penning crew. Jim also loved racing, not only horses, but cars as well. He went deer hunting each fall and enjoyed hosting family and neighborhood pig roasts during the warm summer months.
Jim in survived by his children: Cindy (Jerome) Deichert of Bismarck, ND; Nikki (Jason) Leaunart of Osakis; Lori (Chris) Ricci of North Arlington, NJ; James Parks Jr. of Alexandria; Mollie, Carmen and Claire Parks, all of Osakis; five grandchildren; his sisters, Myrna (Loran) Corum of Grafton, ND; Coreen (Larry) Freier of Mercer, ND; brothers, Leroy Parks of Turtle Lake, ND and Mark (Carol) Parks of South Lyon, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Addison and Bernice Parks.
Funeral services for Jim were held August 11, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church in Oakis with Rev. Kathy Schuler officiating. Interment was at West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis with honorary pallbearers being the members of the Osakis Trailblazers Club, the Team Penning members. Active casketbearers were Bob Haburn, Colby Judd, Mike Urban, Darrell Nelson, Jerry Kram, Doug Ostrem and Jeff Arkfeld. Arrangements were by Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis.
