Nancy was born in Richmond County, N.C. on February 16, 1924, the daughter of Jesse and Beulah Covington. She attended High Point College for two years and was Rep. C.B. Dean's office manager for several years.
After living in North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee, she and her family moved to Clarksville, Virginia where she resided for 16 years. In 1978, she moved to Raleigh. She entered the business world at Durham Life Insurance, where she worked for 12 years.
Surviving: sons, David and his wife, Elizabeth of Raleigh, George and his wife, Betsy of Forest, Virginia, Chuck and his wife, Sheila of Suwanee, Georgia. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Ashleigh of Atlanta, Sarah of New York City, David of Atlanta, Matthew and Adam of Forest, VA, C.J. and Michael of Suwanee, GA. In addition, are surviving niece, Jean Thomas Way of Rockingham and nephews, Pickett Ellerbe of Columbia, SC, Billy Thomas of Concord, and Wilson Thomas of Rockingham.
Memorial service was held on September 8, 2004 at Highland United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. and at Glenaire at 3:30 p.m. A private burial service was held at Zion United Methodist Church in Rockingham, NC on September 9, 2004
