Sandy Barrett, age 51, of Osakis, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, March 30, 1999 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
Sandra Jean Golnitz was born on March 1, 1948 in Willmar to Herbert and Dorothy (Hasenwinkel) Golnitz. She was a 1966 graduate of Raymond High School in Raymond. She was united in marriage to Duane (Snooks) Barrett on January 20, 1969 in Sisseton, South Dakota.
Sandy worked at the Fingerhut Company in Alexandria and then at Brown and Bigelow Corporation in Minneapolis. She did waitress work for Eldred's Cafe in Osakis and was later employed at Alex Extrusion. Besides working and raising a family, Sandy also found time to take the Accounting courses at Alexandria Technical College for two years. She soon found work at Douglas County Lumber and also for the Century Chiropractic Clinic. Her most recent employment was with the City of Sauk Centre as assistant City Clerk. Sandy was a member of the Osakis Lutheran Church and belonged to the Esther Circle. She was also a member of the Central Lakes Cruzers Car Club of Osakis. Sandy was a busy and hardworking wife and mother. She loved her family and was always concerned about their well-being. She especially enjoyed spoiling her grandkids with her homemade chocolate chip cookies. Another of her favorite things was going to the various car club events with her husband, Snooks. She liked to read, crochet and work in her flower garden. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 30 years, Duane (Snooks) Barrett of Osakis; children: Mark and Trevis Barrett; Duane, Jr. and RoxAnne Barrett of Osakis; Scott and Annette Barrett, East Bethel; Robert Barrett of Arizona; nine grandchildren; parents: Herb and Phyllis Golnitz of Hawick; sister: Char and Jim Gatewood of Princeton. She is preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Golnitz and a brother, Virgil Golnitz. Funeral services were held April 3, 1999 at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Reverend Ron Calvert officiating. Interment was at the West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis. Honorary Casketbearers were her grandchildren, Doug Hjelm and members of the Osakis Central Lakes Cruzers. Active pallbearers were Wayne Karl, Dallas Triebenbach, Mike Doehling, Doug Kramer, Glenn Miller and Larry Lehn. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis.
