Paul E. Taylor, 79, of Sioux City and Okoboji, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Schuchert Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, with the Rev. Al Grendler officiating. Burial will be in St. Margaret's Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 23 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4514. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Taylor was born June 16, 1922, in Sioux City, the son of Vernon H. and Germaine (Jambou) Taylor. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the European Theater in France. He graduated from the University of Iowa before returning to Sioux City.

He married Cecelia "Clee" Malloy on April 11, 1950, in Sioux City. He owned and operated Mid Con Equipment for 45 years in Sioux City, Des Moines and Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City and Sioux City Elks Club. He enjoyed living in Okoboji.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Lee Taylor of Odessa, Texas, Lynn and her husband, James Stewart of Atlanta, Ga., Paul E. Taylor II of Sioux City, Susan Sharoni of Okoboji, and A. Taylor Taylor of Okoboji; six grandchildren, Hayden and Hillary Taylor, Jimmy and C'Lee Ann Stewart and Malina and Camille Sharoni; and a sister, Lisette Moermond of Antigo, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rene.
