Charles John Guenther, 91, of Germania died peacefully in his home with family by his side on September 16, 2015. Charles was born on May 11, 1924 in Pomona. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Jobb receiving many honorable ribbons and medals. He retired from NAFEC in 1987 after 30 years of service. He was a dedicated citizen and volunteer for the Galloway Township Community. Charles passion was hunting, camping and traveling with family and friends. He was a member of the Pomona Vol. Fire Company for 64 years, Galloway Twp. Fire Chief for 23 years, over 40 years on the Exec. Committee for Atlantic County Fire Fighters Association, Germania Gunning Club for 55 years, and also the American Legion and Redmen's Assoc. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles M. and Rose Guenther and brothers, Howard and Clarence Guenther. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Katherine J. Guenther; children, Sharon Guenther companion Debra Germann of Hernando, Fl, Carol Williams of Darien, GA, Charles D Guenther of Grand Junction, CO, Bonnie Bondiskey, Landisville, NJ, Vernon Appleby companion Gary Richmond, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, Sherry Appleby companion Sherry Allen of Millsboro, DE, and Tracy Rocap companion Hank Beckman of Estell Manor, NJ; nine grandchildren, Alan Glaser, Jr (Margaret), Rachael Guenther (Lyndsay), Tammy Bondiskey (Vince), Charles E. Guenther (Jamy), Danielle Williams (Hassan), Melissa Williams, Donald Bondiskey (Rachael), Tim Ripley (Melissa) and Carly Rocap; ten great grandchildren, Brianna, Kyle, Tyler, Angelica, Charles A., Aiyana, Alejandro, Peyton, Devon and Jack; brothers, Richard Guenther (Jean) of Germania, Fred Guenther (Margaret) of Cologne, Ralph Guenther (Jean) of Germania and one sister, Rose Schairer of Germania. Charles leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to thank Dot Corbin for all her help and Heartland Hospice for their daily care these past few months. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, September 20th from 5:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Monday, September 21st from 9:00 to 11:00 AM with a "Celebration of Life" to follow that will all take place at Wimberg Funeral Home, 211 E. Great Creek Road, Galloway 609-641-0001. Interment will follow at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pomona Volunteer Fire Company.
