Richard Walter Calhoun, Walt to his friends and family, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, of heart failure.

Born Jan. 19, 1927, his life took him from the family farm near Spangle, Wash., to Germany as a member of the Army of Occupation and back to eastern Washington as a cougar of Washington State College. He graduated in 1951 and started a 39-year career in budgets and finance, first with GE and later with a number of government contractors.

Walt had a fulfilling career working on projects at the Hanford Site near the Tri-Cities and at Idaho National Lab outside Idaho Falls.

Walt married Polly Cox in April of 1953, and the family grew quickly with the addition of two sons and a daughter.

Walt and Polly retired to Boise in 1990 to be near their daughter's children. He enjoyed golfing, reading and the occasional gin martini.

Walt is survived by his sons, Michael (Maureen) and Steven (Gayle) of Tacoma, Wash; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly, and daughter, Patricia Calhoun Frisby.

At his request, there will be no funeral service, instead the family asks you to raise your glass in a toast to his memory.
