Shirley is survived by daughters, Lynn M. Grate of South Bend, IN; Jean A. (Steven) Taylor of Bethesda, MD; and Joan E. (Eric) Etter of Munster, IN; three grandchildren, James Taylor and Eric and Elaina Etter; sisters, Lois (Patrick) Haynes of Dallas, TX; Suzanne Clever of Washington Township, NJ and Audrey Jack of Dallas, TX, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Swanson, Doris Huber, Mary Wolfe, Barbara Mitchell; and brothers, Fred Jr., Daniel, James, Robert and Jerald Wendel.
Shirley was a member of the first graduating class at St. Joseph High School in South Bend. She was employed by Time Realty as a secretary for 10 years and enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and was very creative. Shirley was always making something.
Services for Shirley will be held at Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel; 17131 Cleveland Road; South Bend, IN at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, September 18 between 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Mishawaka City Cemetery; Main Street and Jefferson Blvd., Mishawaka, IN.
