Charlotte Marie (Cox) Gordon, age 96, of Independence, passed away Monday, December 23rd at Windsor Place, Coffeyville.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at The First Christian Church in Independence with Reverend Terry Hatfield, officiating. The book will be available to sign on Friday, December 27th from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Webb & Rodrick Chapel. The family suggests memorials to First Christian Church and memorial may be left at the chapel.

Mrs. Gordon was born in Independence on December 14, 1917 to Fred and Lillian (Tibbetts) Cox, and was raised by her mother and step-father, Ed Wagaman. She attended Independence Schools and graduated from Independence High School in 1935 and graduated from Independence Community College in 1937.

On June 18, 1938 Charlotte married James Clinton Gordon and shortly thereafter moved to Kittery, Maine. Later the family moved to Bremerton, WA and returned to Independence in 1946.

Mrs. Gordon was a mother and housewife. She was active as a 4-H leader when her children were young. She had been a member of Chapter EF, PEO, a member of First Christian Church, Independence, for over 65 years. Mrs. Gordon was active in CWF and belonged to the Home builders Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Gordon is survived by her four children, Norma (Blaine) Babb, James E. (Vicki) Gordon of Independence, Linda (Ray) Ferrate of Salida, CO and Tom (Sue) Gordon of Robertsdale, AL; eleven grand-children and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death her husband, mother, step-father, father and one brother.
