Jerome W. Gilbert 79, of Springfield died Thursday at St. John's Hospital.
He was born March 10, 1916, in Springfield, the son of Herman and Nellie Streder Gilbert. He married Mary Etta Moon in 1938. Mr. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He was employed by Sangamo Electric for 42 years as a gauge inspector and had also been employed by Bill Mathews Auto Body for several years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: wife, Mary Etta Gilbert; a daughter, Rose Mathews Harrison of Dawson; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
