Born June 15, 1931 in Bronx, NY, the son of Robert J. Amberson and Mary B. (Conway) Amberson. He was the widower of Catherine M. Dirr Amberson.
Bob was proud of his Irish Heritage and very proud to be an American. He served in the U.S. Army. He retired as Director of Parks and Recreation in Chester NY and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Goshen Senior Center and enjoyed caring for his dog Spunky and gardening. Above all, he was an avid reader and had a passion for learning and knowledge-especially American History related to the Civil War.
He is survived by his beloved children, Cathy Smith and boyfriend, Ralph Miele of New City, NY, Robert Amberson and girlfriend, Patricia Atkinson of Omaha, NE, Dennis Amberson and wife Nicole of Olathe, KS, Veronica Amberson of Piscataway, NJ and Kim Amberson of Goshen, NY; 8 grandchildren, Sean, Nicole, Robert, Patrick, Christina, Griffin, Kate, Olivia May; sister, Jane Roche and husband Bill of Conway, SC; niece, Patricia Roche and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Catherine; niece, Mary Alice Roche and nephew, Billy Roche.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 17 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Friday, September 18, 2015 at St. John The Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY.
Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Goshen.
