Lawrence Roys, 93, died October 20, 1977, at his home in Moline, Illinois. He was born October 10, 1884, in Saginaw, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan where he received a BS in engineering in 1906. Lawrence became intrigued by the problem of correlating the Maya and Spanish calendars and later developed a general interest in Maya mathematics and engineering which led to a number of field studies in Yucatan in the 1920s and 30s and the publication of his "Engineering Knowledge of the Maya." He was a fellow of the American Anthropological Association, a member of the Society for American Archaeology and held an honorary LLD from Augustana College.
