Blake Preston Miller
.
Blake Preston Miller, our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at his home in New Orleans after a courageous battle with lung cancer. A native of Baton Rouge, Blake was born on November 22, 1952. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1971. He attended Tyler Junior College and served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve for many years. His real estate career began in Baton Rouge. Blake then moved to where his heart belonged, New Orleans, and became a very successful entrepreneur. In 2000, he renovated and opened French Quarter Suites Hotel and then New Orleans Courtyard Hotel. Blake began his next adventure in 2012 when he bought the oldest standing structure in Plaquemines Parish, Mary Plantation. After Mary suffered great damage due to Hurricane Isaac, Blake made it his mission to restore her to her original beauty. This wonderful, peaceful place was where Blake had hoped to call home. Blake is preceded in death by his much loved parents, William J. (Billy) and Brooklyn Miller and partner Kurt Tande. He is survived by his best friends of many years, Patrick Berthelot and Ernie Nunez. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Mike and Mary Helen Miller, Kelley and Larry Harris, Jamie and John Carruth, Robin and Mark Stirling, and Robert and Connie Miller. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Amanda Callaghan; Britain, William, Gordon, and Andrew Miller; Bradley, Brooklyn, and Clay Harris; Alex Carruth; Miller Jensen; Connor and Kirby Miller; and ten great nieces and one great nephew. A special thank you to cousin, John Pitts Miller, Notre Dame Hospice, and 5th floor Oncology Unit nurses at Touro Infirmary. Blake was a funny, hardworking, talented, creative, generous, free spirit who loved life and all the people he met along the way-and they loved him back. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Rest in peace dear brother, uncle and friend. Life will never be the same without you. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2015, beginning at 10:00 am with services at 12:00 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA, with private burial at Roselawn Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held in New Orleans on Sunday, September 27, 2015, at 5:00 pm at French Quarter Suites Hotel, 1199 N. Rampart St., New Orleans, LA. Pallbearers will be Patrick Berthelot, Ernie Nunez, and Blake's nine nephews. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 9457 Brookline Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70809.
