Denton Lee "Dennie" Dunn, 79, died Tuesday, May 24, 1994, in Salt Lake City.

Born December 3, 1914, in Scofield, Utah. Married Lois G. Walker June 18, 1938, in Salt Lake City; she preceded him in death. Attended West High School and University of Utah. Founder and president of Dunn Oil Co., which he began in 1947 after working for Shell Oil Co. for 12 years. He was an innovative petroleum marketer representing many major oil companies, including Union, Shell, Chevron and Mobil. In 1982, he was cited by Union Oil Co. as its outstanding distributor in the United States. He was a founding member and president of Western Petroleum Marketers Association, and served as president of the Utah Oil and Gas Association. Member, Acacia Lodge No. 17, Free and Accepted Masons, for 57 years. Member, York and Scottish Rites, El Kalah Shrine (Jesters and Mounted Patrol). Member, Masonic Temple Foundation. A lifelong supporter of the University of Utah, particularly athletics. Member of the U's President's Club and Crimson Club and an Emeritus Award winner. He was also a member of the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders Association and owned Jealous Secret, son of Secretariat.

Survivors: daughter, Kathleen Stone, Salt Lake City; son, Denton Lynn Dunn, Salt Lake City; five grandchildren; sister, Mrs. M. Vern Woodhead, Salt Lake City; longtime friend and sister-in-law, Mrs. Verle Marchant, Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 2150 So. Foothill Dr. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Funeral directors, Evans & Early.
