Born Dec. 14, 1935, in River Rouge, he was the son of Wm. Chester and Marie (Primeau) Hodges. He grew up in River Rouge and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes School. He served in the Army as an SP3 (T) of the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. He worked as a superintendent at the Rouge Stamping Plant for Ford Motor Company for many years.
He and Joanne Marie Fogarty were united in marriage on Feb. 1, 1958, in Wyandotte. The couple moved to Houghton Lake from Southgate in 1993. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, St. James Men's Club, Knights of Columbus and Queen of Apostles Council #6548. He was an avid golfer and could be seen often on the fairways at Pineview Highlands Golf Course.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Wm. Chester and Marie Hodges; and brother, Patrick Hodges.
Surviving Mr. Hodges are his wife of nearly 57 years, Joanne Hodges of Houghton Lake; daughter, Vicki Hodges of Ashland, MA; sons, Richard (Joyce) Hodges of Magnolia, TX, David Hodges of Warren, Jeffery (Cathleen) Hodges of Eaton Rapids and Christopher (Amy) Hodges of Canton; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Leona Daly of Spokane, WA; brothers, James (Gladys) Hodges of Houghton Lake, William (Ilene) Hodges of Traverse City, Joseph (Joanne) Hodges of Huntsville, AL and Robert (Dolores) Hodges of Troy and several nieces and nephews.
