Mrs. Charlotte Baird, 89 of Route 1, Box 250, Sanger, died last night in the family residence following a prolonged illness. She was born in Birmingham, England, and had lived in Fresno County nearly sixty years. Her husband, Robert Baird, died in 1909.

The death of her parents left Mrs. Baird an orphan when she was 9 years of age. She left England as a girl and went by sailboat in New Zealand, the voyage requiring three months. Eight years later Mrs. Baird came to America and settled in Fresno, where her brother. Edward Rogers, owned property on Orange Avenue.

Following her marriage, Mrs. Baird and her husband lived in Easton, where they operated a dairy, and later moved to West Park. Since 1900 she had lived in the Kutner Colony.

Survivors include three daughters, Eva Baird and Mrs. Florence Hansen of Sanger and Mrs. Winifred Sykes of Barstow Colony; two sons, Robert and Edward Baird of Sanger; a sister, Mrs. Emily Puffin of Los Gatos; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Baird was active member of the Methodist Church in Sanger.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 pm in the chapel of the Lisle Funeral Home, followed by interment in the Belmont Memorial Park. Published in the Fresno Bee May 11, 1940.
