Don was born August 16, 1936 in the Monticello Community to the late David H. Swaim and Nell Haithcock Swaim. He was a US Army Veteran and served in Korea. He loved family, children, singing and the Lord.
Survivors are his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Jo Allen Swaim; beloved children and grandchildren, daughters, Michelle Bullock and her husband Joe of Kernersville; Allyson Sharpe and her husband Ted of Burlington; son, Allen Swaim of Georgia; granddaughter, Jasmin Bullock, grandson, Holden Halsted; and Dillon Allen, Don’s blessing. Brothers, Bill Swaim, Mick Swaim, Mike Swaim; sisters, Rachel McFarling, Judy Steen, Pat Levens, many nieces and nephews including closest Billie Jo Olsen, Steve Wall and Phil Wall; many special friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by sisters, Gertrude Hodnett, Grace Sartin and Iris Swaim; brothers David Swaim and Alan (Red) Swaim.
Don had a strong faith in God and was a lifelong member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ and was a choir member for many years. A master brick mason he was involved with construction for over 45 years. He loved to be outside, gardening and working in the yard and fixing things, being with family and friends and sometimes fishing with Dillon, whom he loved as his own.
Visitation will be held at Mount Hope United Church of Christ, Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 12:00 – 1:30PM prior to service at 2:00PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
