Roger Eugene Barnes, 81, of Hot Springs, passed away on September 12, 2015.

He was born September 13, 1933 in Lineboro, Maryland, the son of Stanley and Claudia Barnes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ray Barnes of Bokeelia, Florida and Kent Barnes of Baltimore, Maryland, and a sister, Evelyn Tigan of Duck, North Carolina.

Roger graduated from Sparks High School in Sparks, Maryland and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Weyerhauser after working 30 years and continued his sales career at Cox Lumber Company.

Roger gave back to the community as a volunteer for the Caring Place of Hot Springs for Alzheimer, as well as being an AARP tax counselor for many years at the Garland County Library. Roger was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Genesis Sunday School Class.

Roger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann (Lockamy) Barnes; son, Mark Barnes and wife, Dawn, of Columbia, South Carolina; his two daughters, Monica Shults and husband, Jim, of Hot Springs and Susan Schroeder and husband, John, of Little Rock; his brother, William Barnes and wife, Jean, of Laurel, Maryland; two sisters, Nona Porter, of Baltimore, Maryland and Vivian Kramer of The Villages, Florida; and brother, Roland Barnes of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth Konz and husband, David, of Tampa, Florida, Mark Barnes, Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri, Jason Barnes and wife, Charity, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Kristen Shults, of Hot Springs. Roger was most happy when his grandchildren came to visit and especially when his great-grandsons, Braxton and Dakota Konz, of Tampa Florida came to Arkansas.

He will be missed by many friends and extended family from the east to the west coast.

Honorary pallbearers include David Bell, L.C. Gaither, Roger Giddings, Bob Gilliam, Joe Glaeser, George Locke and Larry Walker.

A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wilson and Rev. Zach Roberts officiating.
