William Henry Arnold was an early resident of Platte County MO. He had a marriage prior to 1855 to an unknown spouse, with whom he had the following children:
Sarah Willmot Arnold b. ? who married 4 Oct 1869 in Platte Co Samuel Zabina Babcock (his first wife).
Mary Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Arnold b. 18 Jan 1855 Clay Co MO who married William Thomas Porter
Rebecca Arnold b.ca. 1863

The first spouse of William Henry Arnold is unknown to me. He was a widower and had three children by 1865, the last one having been born 1863. (It is a likely assumption that his first wife died in birth of last daughter Rebecca Arnold.) William H. Arnold remarried on Oct 19, 1865 another Platte County widow, Sarah E. 'Sally' Heath, daughter of James Heath of Platte Co. MO. However at the time of their marriage Sarah's name was Sarah E. Babcock, having first married Isaac 'Jack' Babcock.

Sarah (Heath) (Babcock) Arnold took in his young children from the prior marriage, brought to the marriage one child she had with Isaac Babcock, and then together she an William Henry Arnold had the following three additional children:
William Henry Arnold Jr
Charles C Arnold
George W Arnold

He was described as a genial, intelligent and energetic farmer and trader. His 2nd wife Sarah was described as a 'intelligent and handsome woman.' The 1870 census which was taken five yrs after he remarried shows that he was 40 years old (1830) and living in Pettis Twp, Platte Co MO with combined family and one child born of their own (William H Arnold Jr).

The July 1870 census has her living as Mrs. William H. Arnold and they are farming in Pettis Twp with the following children still at home (his eldest Sarah had married and left home):
Mary Elizabeth Arnold 14 (from his 1st marriage)
James Babcock age 11 (from Sarah Heath's 1st marriage)
Rebecca Arnold 7 (from his 1st marriage)
William Henry Arnold Jr (first child from their marriage together)

On Sept 27, 1870 Sarah and her 2nd husband Wm Henry Arnold sold for $185 the following land to a Dolphus J. Fouts: “All the following described part of the SW 1/4 of section 35, twp 52, range 35, to wit: Beginning at a point twenty chains west of the SE corner of said quarter, and running then north 7 25/chains to a stake on the north bank of a branch from which an elm 30 inches in diameter bears South 66 1/2 east 1 50/chains to a stake in William Zachary’s line, then with his line south about 15 degrees west 10 25/chains to the township line, then with the township line west about 15 62 1/2/chains to the beginning.”

William Henry Arnold, being older than his 2nd wife, died Oct 1872 without leaving a will. However, the settlement document to his estate read:

Under ‘Application for Letters of Administration for William H. Arnold Deceased’ dated 14 Oct 1872, the administrator of his estate, Richard Babcock states that to the best of his knowledge and belief the following are the names of the heirs and their places of residences:
Sarah A. Arnold (widow) County of Platte, MO (this is 2nd wife Sarah Heath Arnold)
Sarah Wilmarth Babcock, County of Platte MO
Mary E. Porter, County of Platte MO
Rebecca Arnold, County of Platte, MO
William H. Arnold, County of Platte, MO (child of 2nd marriage to Sarah Heath)
Charles C. Arnold, County of Platte, MO (child of 2nd marriage to Sarah Heath)
The document further states that William H. Arnold died without a will.

Note to others: The Annals of Platte Co MO by William Paxton unfortunately does contain a number of errors which confuse all of us. There was such an error in it for this family. It contradicts itself in two places regarding the children of Sarah 'Sally' Heath and first husband Isaac 'Jack' Babcock. In one place Wm Paxton attributes them many children, but they were married just one year before he died and had just one child together: James W Babcock.
