Christine Miller Hicks, 90, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at her home. She was the wife of the late George Murphy Miller. Born June 13, 1922 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Hampton Carr and Mamie Burnett Carr. She was retired from the News & Advance where she served as receptionist and switchboard operator for many years. She was a longtime member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church where she was the president of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and singing in the choir was the joy of her life. She is survived by two sons, Samuel "Sam" Miller and his wife, Ann Thompson Miller, of Roanoke, VA and Patrick Miller of Norfolk, VA; 3 grandchildren, Bradford Early Miller and his wife, Allison, of Arlington, VA, Sarah Alice Miller of Roanoke and Alan Thompson Miller and his wife, Rebecca, also of Roanoke, VA and one great-grandchild, Benjamin Miller of Arlington, VA. She is also survived by her two little doggies, "Little Bit and Baby." She was preceded in death by four sisters, Susie Caldwell, Lucille Wood, Katherine Singleton and Leone Miles. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at West Lynchburg Baptist Church with the Rev. James D. Newman and Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating, followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. A private family burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery prior to the memorial service. The visitation scheduled for Friday evening at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel has been canceled due to the expected bad weather. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church during the reception. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to West Lynchburg Baptist Church, 3031 Memorial Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501 or Lynchburg Humane Society, 3305 Naval Reserve Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24501. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory-Waterlick Chapel, 237-2722, is serving the family.
