Rev. George Christian Franke was one of ten children born to Philip Franke and his wife Margaret Metzinger. George graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri and was ordained as a Minister in 1833. He was a Pastor of the Evangelical Church in New Orleans and the first pastor to preach in English instead of German.

George was united in marriage on January 20, 1892 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana to Catherine "Katie" Thoele.
