As a young man, Seth Bryant left Maine and was engaged in harness making in Iowa before moving on to St Louis where he started working in the hardware business and stove repairs. In 1895, the Bryant family moved from St Louis to Chicago IL and on to Evanston IL in 1900 where Seth was engaged in upholstering, bicycle, stove, and furniture repairs. The Bryant family were active members of St Paul's English Lutheran Church.
