Son of John Walter & Mary Elizabeth Brett, of Cley, Norfolk;
husband of Eliza Jane Brett, of Avonduur, Milnerton, Cape Town, South Africa. Born at Cley, Norfolk. (41)
(NB, Lloyd's Captains Register give his year of birth as 1873, so his age given by CWGC may be incorrect),

On November 7th, 1917, the British steel cargo ship UMGENI, built in 1898
by Laing James & Sons Ltd. and owned at the time of her loss by Bullard,
King & Co., left Clyde - Liverpool for Lagos, and went missing.
She was last spoken to on 9th and not heard of ever since.
