Ruby Spears Collins

Ruby Spears Collins, 94, a resident of Slocomb passed away Friday September 11, 2015 at a local nursing facility.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm Monday September 14, 2015 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Byrd and Rev. Coley Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2 pm prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Collins was born July 18, 1921 and lived in the Slocomb area most of her life. She was a 1952 graduate of Troy State Teachers College and taught for 17 years at Fadette and Slocomb Elementary. She was devoted to her family, church family and education. Mrs. Collins was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents Rev. John and Hettie Spears, her brother James B. Spears and her sister Dessie Mae Woodham.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Raymond Collins; their children, Milton (Gwen) Collins, John Collins, Richard (Teresa) Collins, and Caroline (Mailon) Boyd; her ten grandchildren, Stacie Rolf, Andy Collins, Jennifer Ainsworth, Melissa Holman, Adam Collins, Matthew Collins, Clint Collins, Elizabeth Collins, Mallory Boyd and Emily Boyd; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. John C. Spears; four sisters, Annie Bell Ward, Martha Meadows, Mary Forehand, and Sarah Curran; several nieces and nephews.
