Nancy Ellertson Horn passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015, after a two-year struggle with ALS. She was 58 years old and died peacefully at her home in Boulder, Colorado. Nancy's family was the center of her life. She married Scott Horn in Boulder on July 24, 1982. They were blessed with a son, Peter, on November 17, 1985, and a daughter, Mary, on March 15, 1989. Nancy was content in life and always had a smile. She was born in Denver on October 8, 1956, to Jim and Ruth Ellertson. Her family moved to Boulder in 1962, and she attended Douglass Elementary School, Burbank Junior High School and Fairview High School (class of 1975). Growing up, Nancy loved summer trips to water ski on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota, swimming at Baseline Lake and riding her horse (Heidi) with friends throughout Boulder County (and in downtown Boulder once or twice). Nancy attended the University of Colorado for two years and then in 1977 began her career at Rocky Mountain Sports Inc.; as Vice President, she worked in the tennis industry and helped manage the company for 38 years. From skiing to hiking to long walks, she enjoyed being outdoors with her family, including their Golden Retrievers (Molly, Mo and Tucker). In addition to Golden Retrievers, Nancy was particularly fond of bunnies - which have settled in her garden since the passing of the family's latest dog Tucker (sadly for Tucker, happily for the bunnies). Her greatest joys were giving to and caring for others. Her family's home was always open, and she had room for anyone who wanted to visit or who simply needed a place to stay. Nancy showed her love by cooking and baking for others; she never missed a birthday, and we will never forget all of her cakes, cookies and loving gifts.

Nancy is survived by her husband Scott of Boulder, CO her children Peter of New York, NY; and Mary (Andrew) Jones of New Haven, CT; sister DeeDee Rice of Boulder, CO; and brother Dan Ellertson of Oak Creek, CO.

A memorial service for Nancy will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Calvary Bible Church, 3245 Kalmia Ave., Boulder. Contributions; Crayons to Calculators, 721 Front Street, Suite A, Louisville, CO 80027 or ALS Therapy Development Institute, 300 Technology Square #400, Cambridge, MA 02139.
