Marcia Brooks-Walters-Bird

December 7, 1939 - May 1, 2015

Marcia Bird, 75, died Friday, May 1st in her daughter’s home in Beaverton, Oregon.

Born in Prineville, Oregon, Marcia spent most of her life in Portland, where she attended Mt Tabor and Lent grade schools, and graduated from Franklin High School in 1958 where she was president of her girl’s club Xys-Ki.

While working as a housekeeper for the past twenty-plus years, Marcia was more of a member of the families she worked for. Several of the children in those families considered her to be an additional grandmother and she enjoyed watching them grow and have families of their own.

Marcia loved visiting the beach more than anywhere else, and often organized family retreats to Rockaway, Oregon, most commonly for Fourth of July celebrations, where they have been staying at the same hotel for close to thirty years. Marcia also had a love for music and her knowledge of current artists was often more accurate than it would have been to someone half her age.

She is survived by her children, Wendy, Sallie, Todd, and Annalee; six grandchildren, Chris, Brooks, Anthony, Jordan, Thomas, and Jack; two great-grandchildren Lei Lani, and Cameron, and many close friends. Marcia made an indelible impression on all members of her family with her strength, humor, and generosity. Her children credit her with being a constant support and helping to form them into strong people themselves. Her thoughtfulness and understanding will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Mt Scott Funeral Home on Saturday, May 16th at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow at the same location. In lieu of flowers, Marcia asked that donations be made to the Oregon Humane Society.
