IRVING, Texas - Carl "Bruce" Wall, 81 resident of Irving for 31 years, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Baylor Medical Center in Irving.
Born Dec. 20, 1931 in Oelwein, Iowa, he was the son of Palmer and Gladys (Reese) Wall. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1949, where he was active in sports. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Upper Iowa University and Masters from Drake University. He was joined in marriage to Janet Warnstadt Feb. 13, 1965.

His teaching career began in McGregor, moving to Wyoming, Iowa, then to Eagle Grove. He then became Principal in Renwick elementary schools. On their closing he moved to Montrose as elementary principal. The last move was to Irving, Texas where he taught in Dallas Independent School District elementary schools until retirement. Retirement did not quite suit him, so he went back to being a substitute teacher in Irving Independent Schools.

Bruce was a member of the Church of Incarnation at the University of Dallas, the American Legion Ross Reid Post 9 of Oelwein, the Tin Can Sailors of Fort Worth, Texas and the Grapevine (Texas) Elks Lodge. For the Elks Lodge he enjoyed being Scholarship Chairman for several years.

Survivors include his wife Janet of Irving; a son Donald (Karen) Wall of Fort Worth; two grandchildren, Curtis (Paloma) Wall of Victoria, Texas and Jacob (Shelley) Wall. Jacob is currently with the Navy in Okinawa and Shelley is in Arlington, Texas. Also surviving him are four great grandchildren, Abigail, Kaitlyn, Jonah, and Conner of Victoria.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grapevine Elks Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1923, Grapevine, TX 76099.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 10 at the Church of Incarnation on the campus of the University of Dallas in Irving. Upon return from deployment of Jacob Wall, a Mass of Christian Burial with interment will be arranged in Oelwein. Tin Can Sailors will present the flag to the family.

A graveside memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein, with Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein is assisting the family.
