Danni was born on October 3, 1955 in New Hanover Co, a daughter of the late James Merell and Lena Caison Hawes.
She was a respiratory therapist technician for many years at Brunswick Community Hospital. She was a member of the Eastern Star, an EMT Instructor, EMT-Intermediate with Bald Head Island Public Safety, and past member & Chief of Shallotte Vol. Rescue Squad.
In addition to her family, her passions involved being “Nana”, gardening, beekeeping, turtle watch, fishing, and the “salt air”.
Surviving are her husband, Jimmy Long; two beloved daughters, Wendi Taylor (Deen), of Fuquay Varina, Suzanne Nason (Wayne), of Durham; sister, Merlene Dew (Buddy), of Bolton; four loving grandchildren, Chandler & Bennett Nason and Caison & Aubrey Taylor; two nephews, Patrick & Riley Dew, & her devoted spaniel, Brittney.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11am Monday, September 14th in the Old Shallotte Baptist Church, where she attended, by Rev. Rory Thigpen and Rev. Landis Lancaster. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
