James Bronson Reynolds married Florence Blanchard Dike on July 16, 1898. She died September 28, 1919. After a long illness of heart disease Mr. Reynolds died in New Haven, Connecticut, on January 1, 1924. The funeral was held in the Congregational Church of New Haven, where his father had been pastor for 30 years. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. A memorial service was held at the University Settlement, New York City on Sunday evening, March 9, 1924, to commemorate his great service for the city.

James Bronson Reynolds left a vacation house at Chocorua, New Hampshire, to Smith College, for the use of Smith College and Yale Graduate School women students, and a bequest to Yale of $10,000, the income of which was to be used toward paying expenses of operation (History of the Class of 1884, Yale College yearbook, on-line).
