Julia Ann Schultz, 83, of Springfield died Thursday at Heritage Manor. She was born Oct. 9, 1913, in Danville, the daughter of James Sherman and Elizabeth Doolin Schultz. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Richard Harrison Gorens and Lee Wesley Jones.
Miss Schultz was a graduate of Springfield High School, Poro Beauty College, Brown's Business College, Hollywood High Adult Education School, El Camino and Los Angeles Trade Jr. Colleges, Travel Advisors Training Academy, Los Angeles, Lutrasilk Corp. and Clairol Institute, New York. She studied in Paris and received a diploma as Colorist from London's Cyril Ashley, Ltd.
In Springfield she owned and operated a beauty salon and founded Gorens Beauty School. She was also editor and publisher of the Springfield Commercial News, worked for the state Department of Public Aid and was a medical assistant. She was assistant business administrator for Merriwether Nursing Homes, Seattle, Kirkland, and Snohomish, Wash.
She received the NAACP Annual Award of Merit for her work with youth. She received the Urban League Award of Merit for volunteer service.
She was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield, and Holman United Methodist Church in California.
Survivors: a sister, Jessie Mae Finley of Springfield; a brother, James Samuel Schultz of Sacramento, Calif.; more than 250 nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins.
Services: Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. Samuel W. Hale officiating. Graveside Services: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
