He began his accounting career in Georgia in 1986, and later moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where he accepted a position at Unocal in Parachute.

While in Grand Junction, he met the love of his life, Sheree (Salatino) Mayo, and they were married on February 1, 1992. David and Sheree were blessed with a son, Benjamin Mayo, in March of 1994. Family meant the world to David, and he loved Sheree and Ben dearly.

During his employment with Unocal, David held several positions in the accounting area. He transferred to California and Texas with Unocal, where he was employed for many years. He later held various positions, the most recent was with The Bayer Corporation.
