WALLACE, Marvin "Joe" 89, St. Petersburg, passed away on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015 at his home. He was born in Wesson, MS., eventually retiring to Florida in 1996. Joe was a United States Army Veteran, having served in WWII and eventually went on to make his career with Phillips Petroleum Company as a Construction Engineer. Prior to his employment, he had made Eagle Scout with 4 Palms, was a member of the Denny Society and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Alabama. He also made the Hall of Fame at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Sue Harkey Wallace; a son, James Wallace; parents, Lona Bufkin Wallace and Noah S. Wallace and one sister, Ruby Smith. He is survived by daughter, Kathy Oakley; sister, Fran Christensen; four grandchildren, Olivia Viets, Joseph Wallace, Kimberly Wallace-Lauzon and Lara Mosier; six great-grandchildren, with a seventh due this coming October; and Joe's long time partner, Beverly Woodall. A public gathering will be held at E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 11 from 10-11 am with services to immediately follow at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery of St. Petersburg. Those wishing to consider memorials, the family asks the contributions be forwarded to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation of Pinellas County. E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home, St. Petersburg.
