Obituary ~ Salt Lake Tribune, February 1948

"Service Station Owner Dies At S.L. Home ~ William S. (Sid) Theobald, 69, 52 W. 8th South, owner of Sid Theobald Service Station, 120 W. 3rd South, died Monday at 3 p.m. at his residence after a lingering illness.

Born in Richfield, Sevier county, Oct. 20, 1878, he was a son of Stephen and Elizabeth Orrock Theobald. He came to Salt Lake City with his parents in his early youth.

For several years he owned and operated a concession at the old Salt Lake Palace. He opened the first phonograph parlor in Salt Lake City and operated one of the first motion picture machines in the city.

He was manager of Murray exchange of the Independent Telephone Co. until Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. took over operations. He managered the Salt Lake branch of United States Rubber Co. about 10 years.

Mr. Theobald was owner of United Vulcanizing Co. many years and leases of a service station at Pierpont and West Temple st.

He married Ella Leith in June, (17th), 1903, Salt Lake City.*

Besides his widow, he is survived by a son and daughter, Blaine Theobald, Los Angeles; Mrs. William Marr, Washington, D.C.; a brother and a sister J.L. Theobald and Mrs. A.L. George, Salt Lake City; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at 260 E. South Temple. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Friends may call at place of funeral Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday prior to funeral."

Mrs. C. E. Leith announces the engagement of her daughter, Ella Leone, to Mr. William St. Clair Theobald. The wedding will take place on Wednesday evening, June 17, at the home of the brides mother, at 58 West Eighth South street.
