Joe Douglas Ellis, 83 of Gilbert, WV, departed this life Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from his residence.
Born September 6, 1932 at Justice, he was the son of the late Alex and Hazel Smith Ellis.
In addition to his parents, Joe was also preceded in death by his brothers: Frank and Jack Ellis.
Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran, he entered the army at age 15, and fought in the Korean War. He was a loving son, father, husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved fishing and being in the outdoors. He attended the Justice Methodist Church.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Joe and to mourn his passing are his wife: Elestine Ellis of Gilbert; his children: Rebecca (Petey) Lester of Justice, Jody (Fatma) Ellis of Hinesville, Ga, and Travis (Carrie) Ellis of Verner; his first wife: Lila Perry Ellis of Sulpher, La; his children: Wayne (Donna) Ellis of Gilbert, MaDonna Young of Jewett, TX, Kathy Gaza of Mansfield, La, and Joey (Cindy) Ellis of Hanover; his sister: Dimple Kay Voigt of Florida; his grandchildren: Hope and Chase Lester, Megan Brunett, Tiffany and Alyssa Ellis, Jaxson and Logan Ellis, Stephanie, Wayne and Cameron Ellis, Doug Young, Leah Helmcamp, Jerry and Brandon Goza, Brittany McMillon, Erin Ellis Reed and Nikki Ellis. He also leaves behind a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other dear family and friends. The family would like to extend their thanks to caregivers Pam Harvey and Rhonda Wilson.
Friends may gather with the family Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, WV. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, WV, with the Rev. Dennis Lester officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ellis Family Cemetery at Gilbert.
Joe will be carried to his final resting place by pallbearers: Travis Ellis, Jody Ellis, Petey Ellis, Chase Lester, Wayne Ellis and Brock Mounts. Honorary pallbearers are: Joey Ellis, Wayne Ellis, Milton Johnson, Pedlo Poe and Jamie Perry.
