JOHN A. INGLIS, age 80, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, of a motor neuron disease. Born in Bronxville, New York, he grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. Following his military service in an Armed Guard unit on board the SS George Vickers he attended the University of Maryland, graduating in 1950 with a mechanical engineering degree. He spent his career with Exxon Company U.S.A., retiring in 1986 from an administrative position with the Marketing Department. Jack moved to Houston with his family in 1961. Transfers to Tulsa and Chicago in the mid 60's were followed by the family's return to Houston in 1967. Jack loved his tennis and upon retirement developed a love for golf. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Kathleen, who enjoyed helping in the antique jewelry business for many years. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 10 years, Carole; his children, Mary of Austin, TX. John and wife Ulrike of Dayton, Ohio, Scott and wife Pam of Mendham, NJ, and Ann and husband Stan McBee of Houston, TX; brother Ed and wife Ruth of Timonium, MD, brother Eric and wife Jan of Dallas, TX; niece Bea Dorsey and husband Steve and their sons Steven and Ben of Peachtree City, GA; nephew Bill Inglis of Baltimore, MD; also surviving are his step-children, Paul Garvey Jr. of Houston, TX, David Garvey and wife Barbara of Roswell, GA, and Barbara Garvey of Houston, TX. Surviving grandchildren include Sophie of Dayton, Ohio, Connor and Sam of Mendham, NJ, and Scott, Tyler and Ryan of Roswell, GA. Friends are invited to visitation with the family on Friday, December 1 from 6-8 P.M. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 4:00 P.M. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association ALS Division to help others with motor neuron diseases.
