Mr. Ralph J. Mills, 79, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Monday, August 20, 2001 at the VA Hospital in Lake City, FL, following complications of Emphysema.

Mr. Mills was born September 26, 1921 in South Georgia. Mr. Mills retired from JEA - Jacksonville Electric Authority. He also retired from Kennedy Space Center as an Electrician.

Mr. Mills was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Mills was a Gunnery Sergeant in WWII Second Marine Division. He fought in the Pacific Campaign and served on Saipan where he earned the Silver Star Medal.

Mr. Mills is preceded in death by his father; George B. Mills, mother; Olive Cribbs Mills and brother; Julian Mills, who died in the battle of Saipan.

Mr. Mills is survived by his wife; Frances West Mills of 27 years, three children; Sandra Mills Bonnell of Jasper, FL, Dale G. Mills of Jacksonville, FL, Judy Mills Mosley of Jacksonville, FL, six stepchildren; Linda Day Adleman of Alachua, FL, Donna Sue Day King of Alachua, FL, Lois Gibbs Kleinberg of Mt. Dora, FL, Shari Gibbs Secchi of St. Augustine, FL, Polly Gibbs Abbey of Lake City, FL, Napoleon (Bo) Gibbs of Middleburg, FL, one sister; Edna Mills Wells of Jacksonville, FL. He has 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The family had a private memorial service on Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Pinewood Chapel, Lake City, FL.
