NEW ALBANY – The Rev. Rufus Hill Sr., 86, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born April 8, 1923, to the Rev. Orville Anthony Hill and Mary Ree Dixon in Centreville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a minister and teacher.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Palmetto CME Church of Tupelo with Bishop Thomas Brown officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park in Verona. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include four children, Rufus (Nora) Hill Jr. of New Albany, Thomasine Hill of Waverly, Tenn., and Vanessa Hill and Daphane Hill Spight, both of Nashville; one sister, O.C. Hill of Centreville; six grandchildren, Tracy Gamble of New Albany, Michael Wade, Lanei Spight, Donato Spight and Melanie Hill, all of Nashville, and Richard Gurley of Memphis; five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
