Dr. Sandra Schroeder of Canon City and Westcliffe, Colorado died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism Sunday, September 6, 2015 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was born April 23, 1960 in Niles, Michigan. Sandy spent her early childhood years in Michigan, Ohio and Evanston, Illinois. She attended Colorado College and completed her BS at Occidental College. She received her Doctor of Medicine at University of Kansas. At the University of Nevada-Reno she completed a 4 year residency in psychiatry and was the first graduate of the psychiatric residency program. Her career as a staff psychiatrist included working at Northern Nevada Mental Health Institute, Reno Veterans Administration Hospital and Mojave Mental Health Center. When working she meet Roger Bogich, a psychiatric case manager. They married and later relocated to Colorado in 2005. She continued working as a staff psychiatrist at West Central Mental Health Clinic (Sol Vista) in Canon City. Currently, she was employed by Insight Telepsychiatry. She loved being a psychiatrist and was well liked by patients and staff. Sandy loved her garden, violin and books. She was an avid fly fisherman and hiked and fished frequently in the surrounding mountains. Sandy wished that her earthly remains be donated to medical science. She will be sorely missed by family, patients and friends. She is survived by her husband Roger Bogich of Westcliffe, Colorado, her mother Merry Schroeder, sister Cindy Schroeder of Santa Fe, New Mexico, brothers Dr. Tom and Sabrina Schroeder of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Jim and Kelly Schroeder of Minnetonka, Minnesota and also 6 nieces and nephews, Elliot and Evan Hammans, Brooke, Piper, Electra and Remington Schroeder. A memorial service will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico at a date yet to be determined.
