The youngest of eight children, Clara was born to Giovanni "John" and Filomena Buono in San Diego. As a young child, she had the honor of serving as Page in the Royal Court for the Italian House of Hospitality in the California Pacific Exposition, 1934-35. She graduated from San Diego High School and then went on to work as a switchboard operator for Sears and Roebuck in Hillcrest.

Clara met and married Donald Hendrick, and became a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother to her two sons, Dennis and Phillip. Clara was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1981 and never remarried.

A sweet woman, Clara will be missed by many including her sons, daughter-in-law, Melissa; grandchildren, Stephanie and Christopher; great-grandsons, Logan and Colin, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a private celebration of life held for Clara to honor the many cherished memories.
