Eugene (Gene), age 83, devoted husband for 60 years to late wife Mary, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2015 after a short illness.

Survived by his daughter Sheri Mead of Magnolia NJ, son Mark and wife Tatiana of San Diego, CA. Loving grandfather to Ryan Mead, and Taylor, Maya, and Victoria Edwards. Son-in-law David Mead of Gilbertsville PA, brother-in-law Joseph Bashano and wife Carol of Lindenwold. Life-long cousin Jim Bessing Sr. of West Deptford NJ. Special friend Ed Deal and daughter Brittany of Tabernacle NJ. Good natured and funny Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Gene was born and raised in Camden NJ, enlisted in the U.S. Air force in 1952, served in the Korean War 1952-53, honorably discharged in 1956. Re-enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1957 until retirement in 1991, finishing a distinguished 38 year military career. Gene moved and settled in Magnolia in 1960. Gene and family were active campers between 1972 and 1992 enjoying trips up and down the east coast.

For his nearly 30 year retirement, he could be found in Florida during the winter months enjoying rounds of golf. Gene also enjoyed a few international trips and frequently visited his son in southern California. He was a long standing board member of his neighborhood civic association, responsible for planning several annual community events. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, September 12 at 11 AM at The Harleigh Cemetery's Mausoleum Chapel, 1640 Haddon Ave., Camden NJ 08103.
