David Leroy Lutz, 82, of Cortland, passed away peacefully 4:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2015, at the River Oaks Nursing Home in Clarksburg following a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Youngstown, the son of the late Herman Guy Lutz and Anita Refner Lutz.

David was a 1951 graduate of Vienna High School .

His wife, Cheryl Jean Johnston Lutz, whom he married July 15, 1967, preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2014.

Mr. Lutz was a machinist for Copperweld Steel in Warren, from where he retired after 43 years of service.

He was a member of the Cortland Christian Church. He was a NASCAR fan and loved WWE wrestling. He could often be found tinkering in his work shop, but most of all he loved doting on his children and grandkids.

Surviving are his two children, Tamara Lee "Tam" (Frank) Snowden of Clarksburg, with whom he made his home for the last three months, and Gregory David Lutz of Cortland; five grandchildren, Ryan Hopson, Marissa Lutz, Vinnie Snowden, Hannah Snowden and Nathan Lutz; two great-grandchildren, Aurora and Aliester; and his sister, Patricia ("Shorty") Palmer of Niles.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his adopted brother, Judd Klutz.

A memorial service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in Cortland.
