Frederick was one of eleven children of Johann Baptist Kneipp and Caroline Utz.

Frederick was a saddler in Tenterfield.

Frederick married Evangeline Maude “Eva” Kilmister in 1893 at the Wesleyan Church Tenterfield New South Wales.

They lived at Dundee Tenterfield.

Frederick and Evangeline had ten children.
1. Evelyn Pearl (Donnelly) (1894-1973); 2. Norman (1895-1919 ); 3. Frederick Walter (1896-1971 ); 4. Dorothy Maude (Sullings) (1898-1992 ); 5. Elsie Florence (Scholz) (1900-1996); 6. In 1893, a Frederick Kneipp established his new saddlery in Rouse Street, Tenterfield. The business was located in premises near the Australian Joint Stock Bank (Tenterfield Star 25 January 1893). In 1897 he was advertising in the Armidale Express (19 January 1897:4) as a Tenterfield saddler offering a ‘new improved saddle’. By January 1906, the business was called the Saddle and Harness Emporium.

Frederick was Mayor of Tenterfield in 1907, 1915, and from 1921 to 1925.

Mr Frederic Kneipp who has been a prominent figure in the business and civic life of Tenterfield for almost 50 years, died suddenly in Brisbane on December 19. He was 71 years of age and had resided here for 49 years. In 1892, he founded the business he had successfully conducted to the time of his death, and was the senior business man of the town. For 28 years he was an alderman of the municipality and was Mayor for five consecutive terms. He had held the position of circuit steward of the local Methodist Church for several years and was a trustee at the time of his death. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kneipp, of Ranger's Valley, and married Miss Evangeline Maude Kilmister. There were 10 children of the marriage, one of whom—Norman was killed in the last war. In addition to his widow, the following children survive: Mrs. C. R. Donnelly (Lismore), Frederick Walter Kneipp (Tenterfield), Mrs. R. Smith (Scrub), Mrs. L. Scholz (Inverell), Sylvester Kneipp (Leech's Gully), Mrs. D. W. Harrison (Lismore), G. Mervyn Kneipp (Tenterfieid), D. W. Wilbur Kneipp (Grafton), and Mrs. George Chorley (Bungulla). There are 14 grandchildren
