The son of James and Margaret Cummings Williamson. James and his wife Mary Rae were married February 14, 1838 and were the parents of six children. They joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and immigrated to America, arriving in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1851. They, with other Scottish immigrants, were sent to Iron County to open the iron works. They lived there until 1859 when they moved to Wellsville, Utah, where they lived the rest of their lives.
