True Republican, 8 September 1926

Mrs. Electa Waterman, prominent in church and society, and a resident of Sycamore since her early girlhood, passed from this life last night, September 6, at the summer home of her son Fred W. Waterman at Eagle River, Wis.

For 14 years Mrs. Waterman had suffered from the effects of paralysis and had been able to be outdoors only in a wheeled chair, but each summer for a number of years she had gone to the summer home of her son where she escaped the hay fever to which she was subject. She left here in July last. She caught a severe cold recently and for several weeks had been declining in health. Her son J. B. Waterman and Dr. J. W. Ovitz of Sycamore visited Mrs. Waterman last week, and it was apparent to them that she could not long survive.

Electa Dustin-Waterman was a daughter of Daniel Dustin, and was born on June 28, 1848, at Topsham, Vt. She came to Sycamore soon after the arrival here of her father in 1858. He became one of the most prominent citizens of DeKalb county; was twice the choice of the Republicans of the county for congressman, but declined in favor of friends; was county clerk and county treasurer and circuit clerk and recorder for many years; was in command of a brigade in the Civil war and was brevetted brigadier general.

Electa Dustin and Walter Waterman, the latter also of a family of early residents of this community, were united in marriage in 1868. To them were born two sons who survive: Fred W. Waterman, general manager of the Gary Tube Co. of Gary, Ind., and John B. Waterman, president of the First National Bank of Sycamore. There are also surviving six grandchildren and one sister Mrs. Emma Myers of Joplin, Mo. Walter Waterman died in 1922.

Mrs. Electa Waterman was an accomplished musician and possessed a beautiful voice and her singing was a great attraction at the services in the Congregational church and on public occasions in this community for many years. She possessed a pleasing personality, was entertaining in conversation and had many friends and admirers. Mrs. Waterman's sons have been particularly devoted to her, and during the years of her invalidism she received the most loving attention and devotion of her daughter-in-law Mrs. J. B. Waterman.

The funeral services will be held at the home 304 South Main street, on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. H. S. Roblee, pastor of the Congregational church, officiating. The interment will be in the family lot in Elmwood cemetery.
