James was the fifth of Thomas and Mary (Foley) Nolan's seven children. He was born in Northampton and grew up mostly at 21 Hooker Ave. next to United Dairy at 23 Hooker Ave.

He married Helen Cecilia Tobin on June 26, 1937 in Blessed Sacrament Church.

He and Helen had 5 children, all born in Northampton:

James Thomas Nolan, born 24 Aug 1938
Patricia May Nolan (Slattery) born 01 May 1941
Michael John Nolan born 25 Jan 1944
Nancy Ann Nolan (Driscoll), born 19 Aug 1946
Margaret Ellen Nolan (Hanjack)born 21 Dec 1948

In the late 1930s, James' parents moved to Graves Avenue and it looks like James moved there as well, to 5 Graves Avenue.

I believe in his youth he worked for United Dairy, as a milkman.

He retired from the job of mechanics helper at Kollmorgan Corporation in Northampton.

He died of a heart attack, and was dead on arrival at Cooley Dickinson Hospital at age 64 on March 6, 1976.
