DOWNS — Julie Marie Simpson Backer, 41, of Downs, passed away at 6:42 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 2, 2015) at her residence.
A service celebrating her life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Downs Fire Station, 102 W. Main St., Downs. Everyone is invited to a meal at the fire station following the service. Father David Halt will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Downs Fire Station. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the children’s education funds through the Downs Fire Association. They can be mailed to the Downs Fire Department, 102 W. Main St., Downs, IL 61736. Arrangements are being handled by Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington.
Julie was born March 5, 1974, in Decatur, the daughter of George Thomas and Alice L. Cross Simpson. She is survived by her husband, Jason Alan Backer. They were married April 5, 2012.
Also surviving are her mother, Alice L. Simpson, Decatur; three children and three stepchildren, also one brother, one nephew and one niece, all of Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
Julie graduated from Mount Zion High School, Mount Zion. She was the director at We Care Daycare Center, Downs. Julie had obtained a Montessori accreditation. She loved karaoke, cooking, her animals and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew her.
