United States Soldier. An immigrant from Wurtemburg, Germany, he served in Company M, 7th United States Regular Cavalry, having enlisted on September 26, 1873. He was on the muster rolls of the unit on June 25, 1876, the date of the Battle of Little Big Horn. However, he was on detached duty that day, and missed the battle. He later served as a Color Sergeant in the 5th United States Regular cavalry.
